BUYER FAQ SELLER FAQ

BUYER FAQ

Q - How does it work?
A - Our Process page maps out the steps involved in buying.

Q - What do I need to import a vehicle into Australia?
A - The first thing you need is a clear US Title. We will ensure that the vehicle you are buying has this. You will then need to apply for an Import Approval. We will supply paperwork for you to submit along with the A$50 fee. Once the approval is issued we will ship your vehicle.

Q - How long does it take to get my vehicle?
A - Once you have wired your payment you should expect to see your vehicle in 6 - 10 weeks. You will be informed of your options. It can take up to 4 weeks to get your Import Approval from the Australian Government.

Q - What are the associated costs involved in purchasing a vehicle?
A - The associated costs are detailed here.

Q - How will I get the vehicle from the USA to Australia?
A - We will arrange for the secure handover of documents and the vehicle. Our shipping contractors will take care of the rest for you.

Q - Do you only sell to Australians?
A - Although the Australian market is strong, we can also assist in buying and selling to other countries around the world.

Q - How am I protected as a buyer?
A - As a buyer we encourage you to get the vehicle inspected and appraised. Once you have received the report and decided to purchase we will do a secure handover.

Q - How much does it cost to buy or sell a vehicle on USAtoAUS.com site?
A - It is free to both buy and sell through this site.

Q - How much does an inspection cost?
A - Inspections are done by qualified professionals and start at U$250 and increase depending on location. Each vehicle has the cost displayed on the listing.

Q - How much does an appraisal cost?
A - Appraisals are done by qualified professionals and cost around U$170. Each vehicle has the cost displayed on the listing.

Q - Do I get a price break if I get an Inspection and Appraisal done at the same time?
A - YES! You save around $100! Each vehicle has the cost displayed on the listing.

Q - Who pays for the inspection and appraisal costs?
A - Generally a buyer would pay these costs. An astute seller may want to offer these reports in advance as an incentive to sell their vehicle faster.

Q - What is covered in the inspection?
A - The inspection covers all items possible while the vehicle is still at the Sellers location. This may also include an extensive road test.

Q - Will an inspection tell me if the car is worthy of purchasing?
A - Requesting an inspection is not to determine if the vehicle is worthy of buying, but to ensure that you are getting a fair, independent, third party, representation of what you are buying. If the seller claims that the vehicle has a little rust, an inspection will allow you to know if that means there is a 1cm sized hole or there is only a little bit of the car that doesn't have rust. It is not to determine or predict future issues or concerns, it is simply to tell you the condition of the vehicle as it now sits.

Q - What if the vehicle is not running?
A - Obviously we will not be able to perform a road test on the vehicle however we can still inspect the condition and completeness of the vehicle. Transporting non-running vehicles cost more.

Q - Can we buy any year vehicle?
A - Yes. However, Australian laws vary from state to state on the left/right hand drive laws. Generally if the vehicle is 30 years old it is exempt from being converted from left hand drive to right hand drive. Please check with your local state.

Q - Can I buy a Motorbike, boat, trailer, etc?
A - Yes and shipping/transportation will be adjusted accordingly.

Q - I found a vehicle on another site, can you offer me the same service?
A - Yes we can take care of all the details for you. Please contact us and we will make the arrangements.

Q - Where will my vehicle be stored between purchase and shipping and what does it cost?
A - Your vehicle will be stored inside our secure storage facility free of charge.

Q - How many vehicles are shipped in one 40' container?
A - Only TWO vehicles are shipped per 40' shipping container. Your vehicle will never leave the floor of the container unlike other shippers that stuff three or four in by build racks and shelves and lift your car in the air potentially exposing it to a greater risk of damage.

Q - How will my vehicle be secured inside the shipping container?
A - Your vehicle will be tied down using four heavy duty ratchet straps.

SELLER FAQ
Q - How does it work?
A - Our Process page maps out the steps involved in selling.

Q - How am I protected as a seller?
A - As a seller we encourage you to be honest about the condition of the vehicle and make the asking price realistic. Once your vehicle has been inspected and appraised the information is available for all buyers to see if the sale falls through. Funds will be released via a secure handover where the funds and vehicle will change hands.

Q - How much does it cost to sell a vehicle?
A - It is free to both buy and sell through this site.

Q - Who pays for the inspection and appraisal costs?
A - Generally a buyer would pay these costs. An astute seller may want to offer these reports in advance as an incentive to sell their vehicle faster.

Q - How long does it take to sell a vehicle?
A - It depends on the condition and price. An Australian buyer will generally be well informed and know what a vehicle is worth and what features/options to look for. If your listing is not generating any interest maybe your price is too high.

Q - Can we sell any year vehicle?
A - Yes and No. The Australian laws basically say that the vehicle must be 30 years old to be legally imported for road use without conversion to Right Hand Drive. If they are not 30 years old they are required to be converted to Right Hand Drive. This can and has been done to most makes and models however it is an expensive process and therefore limits the market. In some states the laws differ (WA and NT for example). Some vehicles may be imported for off-road use and racing but they are far and few between.

Q - Are there certain makes/models that sell better than others?
A - Yes. Past trade indicates that the best selling vehicles are similar to North America with the 1960's Mustang and Camaro as the clear leader. Corvettes and shoebox Chevs are good sellers as well. Chevelle, Cougar, Cuda, Torino and the like have a smaller following.

Q - Can I sell a Motorbike, boat, etc?
A - Yes!
